The Week Ahead in Podcasts & Articles – w/c 11th August
Mid-August brings another round of open discussion and lived experience across the construction, conveyancing, and property sectors. Whether it’s the realities of building on time, the risks of expired data, or the accountability gap in development, each session offers insight from people who deal with these issues every day. Hosted, chaired and produced by Gareth Wax, in conversation with myself, Hamish McLay, conveyancing collaborator.

Tuesday 12th August – Construction Matters - 1pm

Late and Costly: Lurking Dangers in Any Delay

We’ll explore why UK construction projects still overrun, the hidden risks for clients, subcontractors, and lenders, and whether the new MHCLG agenda can make a difference. Joining the conversation are Michelle Carr, the Construction Alchemist – bringing clarity, innovation, and transformation to the construction industry through a rare blend of strategy, intuition, and vision, and Dave Symondson, bringing years of hands-on experience. A frank look at delays, their ripple effects, and what really works to keep projects on track.

Wednesday 13th August – IPSA Kind Of Magic - 1pm

The Search Agent’s Sixth Sense: Knowing When Something Doesn’t Add Up

Thursday 14th August – Property Quorum - 10am

Buy, Improve, Extend? What the Hell’s the Hold-Up?

The panel takes on why homeowners looking to buy, improve and extend are meeting more pushback than ever. From stricter planning rules to rising costs, neighbour objections and tougher sustainability requirements, the renovation route is becoming more complicated. Chris Gilsenan and Juliet Baboolal join the conversation as we look at what this means for homeowners, property investors, HMO owners and property lawyers.

Friday 15th August – Cladding Matters - 1pm

Unsafe, Unsellable: Cladding and Remediation Stalling the Market

We look at why thousands of homes remain caught in the cladding crisis. Despite government funds, regulatory changes, and years of promises, remediation is moving at a painfully slow pace. Sales continue to collapse, insurance costs keep climbing, and entire developments are left in limbo. Stephen Day from Royal Artillery Quays will share his perspective on the market impact, the regulatory delays, and the lived experience of those in unsafe and unsellable homes.
