Would I Miss You If You Were Gone?

Would I miss you if your were gone?

Seth Godin, of course.

Who else?

Nicolas Cole.

Jay Acunzo.

Bernadette Jiwa.

All, are still here.

All still producing amazing content, in one form or another.

There is one missing, though and he's left a big, big hole in my heart.

Someone who has shaped my thinking on estate agency. On the power of words. On the importance of message. On story. On so many other levels.

Over a hundred podcasts, spanning two years and he's no longer a part of my life. He moved on to pastures new. Started the philanthropic venture that is www.impactclub.com

A brilliant idea, just not one with which I could become involved.

Despite the high profiles of those first four on my list, for all the generous advice and resource they continue to share, the one that I miss, now that he has gone, is Ryan Fletcher.

Founder of www.agentmarketingsyndicate.com

I re-visited one of his podcast episodes recently.  The one about building your own media company. I cannot begin to tell you how much valuable information is contained within that 1 hour podcast episode. www.agentmarketingsyndicate.com/eric-verdi/

Building your own media company is something that every agency/realtor should do. It's a staggeringly obvious point of differentiation. Whether with the content you put out on a blog, podcast, or video.  Or, with the tone of voice that signals "this is who I am". Or the body language that labels you an extrovert, at ease in their own skin. The clues are all there.  If you have the courage.

Instead, though, agencies choose the easy option. Social media posts that have an attention span measured in seconds. Racing for  attention, likes and shares, when unfortunately there is no real message being delivered.

Other than "Please, choose me."

If you want to earn the attention and convert that attention into engagement, you will have to prove you have something to say.

I mentioned in a recent post of a polarity between agents that have a personal brand and those that seek to automate every fibre of their being. It applies equally to whether you have your own media platform on which to share your message - or whether you will be forever reliant on the whims of some changing algorithm.

When you do have that message, on a platform that you own and control, share it with like-minded individuals.  Create your audience.

Delight them and inspire them with your personality and with your knowledge. Involve them in your community. Collaborate with them.

When the time comes for them to choose an estate agency, or realtor, they will choose someone they know, like and trust.

Not some here today, gone tomorrow purveyor of fantasy.  Not some local property expert that claims to be passionate about property, without ever saying why. Not some agent that hasn't the self-belief to charge vendors more than they would like to pay.

Someone they know, like and trust. Someone that has a canon of thought on every page of their web site. In every episode of their podcast. And in every video they upload to their site.

Be that someone they would miss, if you were gone.

For me, there are but a handful of estate agents that could claim they would be missed.

With a sector wide shake-out imminent, not being missed if you were gone is no place to be at present.

If I can help, as always, just get in touch. My advice is always free.
