Standards aren’t always headline-grabbers. Yet when they slip, everyone notices. In the world of property searches, those standards underpin everything: from the accuracy of what’s reported to the trust that builds between professionals.

So what happens when shortcuts start creeping in?

It’s no secret that time and cost pressures are pushing some providers to take the quicker route. They rely on unverified datasets, unchecked assumptions, or automated reports with no local knowledge behind them. In the rush to digitise, something vital is being lost: care.

Care in how reports are prepared. Care in what gets flagged. Care in doing things properly, even when no one’s watching.

For IPSA members, that level of professional integrity is non-negotiable. Each member is vetted before joining. Every report reflects more than just a data grab. There’s diligence behind the scenes, because accuracy isn’t a luxury. It’s the baseline.

IPSA membership isn’t open to just anyone. One of the prerequisites is that applicants are already regulated by the Property Codes Compliance Board (PCCB). That’s just the start. Our own membership criteria demand even more: additional checks, a formal interview, and includes an alignment to a set of expectations that go well beyond box-ticking.

Solicitors are expected to apply due diligence when advising clients. IPSA does the same and expects its members to do so consistently. That means anyone using an IPSA member is already working with a provider who’s met that bar. The risks have been assessed. The groundwork has been done.

This week’s IPSA Kind of Magic podcast explores how those standards are maintained and why they matter more than ever.

Titled Search Integrity and Standards: How We Maintain Professional Trust, the episode explores what it means to do things the right way in a changing market. Host Gareth Wax is joined by Heather Poole-Gleed and myself for a grounded, real-world conversation about how IPSA holds the line.

We’ll touch on IPSA’s entrance process, the day-to-day consistency members deliver, and how professional trust is built – not promised.
